What happens during the Surgery?
Nail Surgery is a minor, clinically performed procedure carried out under local anaesthetic to ensure the area is completely numb and pain-free. Once the toe is anaesthetised, a tourniquet is applied to reduce bleeding, and the problematic section or the entire nail is carefully removed. If needed, a chemical called phenol is applied to the nail matrix to prevent regrowth of the offending nail edge and reduce the risk of recurrence. The area is then thoroughly cleaned and dressed and patients are given aftercare instructions to support healing and minimise infection risk. Most patients are able to walk immediately after the procedure and return to normal activities shortly after.
