Norbert Ataxia

Norbert took part in Parallel Windsor last weekend, raising funds for Ataxia UK

Many of our customers will know our Founder and mentor Norbert. Norbert has Ataxia which is a degenerative disease of the nervous system and is no longer able to work in the clinic but continues to guide and advise the Team.

Norbert was a passionate cyclist and skier, which is no longer possible but he still enjoys getting out in his Tri-Ride wheelchair. Last weekend Norbert joined the Parallel Windsor event, accompanied by his wife, Kristin to raise funds for Ataxia UK who fund research into finding treatments and cures, and offer advice, information and support to people affected by the condition.

Norbert and Kristin would be very grateful if you are able to make a donation to their fundraising page, all donations however small or large are greatly appreciated.

As many of you know, I have struggled with Ataxia since my diagnosis in 2008, it is progressively taking my mobility, speech and independence, preventing me from working since 2021. Life is a challenge but I do my best to get out when possible, enabled by my Tri-Ride wheelchair and support from my wonderful family.

Ataxia is a rare, progressive neurological illness that attacks the sheath around the nerves so communication with muscles is lost. I have spinocerebellar Ataxia SCA 2 – there are many different types and all are designated orphan (rare) conditions, there is currently no treatment or cure.

I’m joining the Parallel Windsor event, accompanied by Kristin, my wife, either taking a few steps of the 100m distance or using my Tri-Ride wheelchair for the 5km course. My aim is to raise awareness of Ataxia and it’s effects as well as to raise funds – as an orphan condition research funding is very limited.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. A HUGE THANKS if you can help in any way, all donations however small or large are greatly appreciated.
